Planning Your Engagement Session
Your sweet fella popped the question, and you booked your dream photographer. Now it’s time to start planning your engagement session! Many brides stress about when to do them, where, and the outfits you will wear. This blog is to help guide you through this process! I am going to give you little tips so that your engagement session goes smoothly.
When to Schedule
- When scheduling for your engagement session, decide if you are sending out save-the-dates. If you are planning on sending them, they should be sent out 6-8 months prior to your wedding date.
- Another planning factor is the preferred season! If you want crisp, cool air with pretty fall foliage then a fall session would be perfect!
What to Wear
-
The outfit you choose has to be your style! It has to make you feel your very best. Choose something that shows your personality!
-
Make sure you are comfortable in the clothes, especially your footwear. If you are not comfortable walking in heels, throw on a cute pair of flats instead.
-
Most importantly, you do not have to match what your partner is wearing. Your colors should blend! Choosing a color scheme will make it effortless to choose the right outfits. Pastels, cool colors, and neutral tones make for great options!
-
The weather is something you should also consider when deciding on an outfit. If it is winter time, choose something that will keep you warm! In the summer, choose something that will be cool and flowy!
-
Make sure the outfit you choose is flattering to your body type. It is so important that you feel confident in yourself so that confidence shines in your photos!
-
I also always advise brides to consider having their hair and makeup done for engagement sessions. Having your nails done is a really great idea as well!
-
Brides always forget to have their sparkling engagement ring cleaned. It will make your ring photos “POP” if it is nice and shiny!
Location
- Your engagement location has to be your style. Choosing your location should fit your personalities. If you love the city, choose a downtown area for your session. If you love being the good ole’ outdoors, find a pretty wooded area (a plus would be if it has an old barn).
- Think about the hobbies you enjoy together. Incorporating fun activities you love doing together will bring out your personalities even more!
- Does your location have sentimental value to your relationship? This could be the place you got engaged, or where you first met.
Photos with your pet!
- I personally love when couples bring their pet to their session! They are a part of your family and most likely your baby! They can add so much laughter to your photos.
- If you decide to bring your furry friend, be sure to let your photographer know. That way they can properly prepare for your fur baby!
- Another great idea is to ask a friend to come along and help. They can hold your pet while just the two of you are being photographed.
Your Photo Ideas!
- Bring any and all of the props you like for your engagement session. This could be signs, confetti, sparklers, etc...
- Discuss any props your photographer may already offer or what your options could be. Some photographers such as myself already have a bag of tricks!
I hope this handful of tips helps you with your engagement session planning! Happy planning!
