Decorating and preparing for your reception takes a lot of prep work. Not only with decorating, but also creating a timeline and considering all the details that revolve around food, dancing, and other festivities. It's also helpful to create not only a timeline, but somewhat of a blueprint for how you expect the space to be set up and flow for your guests and wedding party. You want this celebration to be memorable in the all the right ways! This blog cover a few helpful tips to take into consideration when planning the flow and details of your reception.
Tip #1
If you plan to have large centerpieces, take into consideration that your guests will want to chat and see all of the wedding festivities. Therefore, it's important to create tall see-through or slender based centerpieces so that your guests will not have to peek around them during the reception. This makes sure that no one misses watching a single dance or part of the fellowship and friendly conversations among their table.
Tip #2
Did you know that decorating in groups of 3 or odd numbers is aesthetically pleasing to the eye? Try this trick with glass votives or small trinket items to dress up a food table or use in lieu of a large floral centerpiece.
Tip #3
Lanterns and ferns are great to decorate with at receptions. The awesome thing about them is that they can be set up prior to the wedding day without worrying that they will die or wilt, like flowers tend to do. Another positive things about decorating with these items is that they can be used after the wedding at home or for future events. They also tend to be a more affordable and inexpensive option for most couples.
Tip #4
If you plan to have signs placed around your reception, make sure that these signs are created in the weeks prior the wedding. This saves valuable time on the day of and helps you make sure that everything is written and spelled correctly and accounted for before the big day. If it's possible at your venue, I would take time the day before to set these up in the designated areas.
Tip #5
If you had a bridal portrait taken prior to your wedding day, it's important to delegate a person to display it right before the reception. Consider having a space and easel ready for it so that it can easily be done between the ceremony and festivities. Perhaps put it in a location where guest can easily see it, but won't risk the chance of knocking it over as they move throughout the space from food to dancing.
Tip #6
Depending on the style of your reception and the space provided, you might want to hang things from the ceiling or rafters. Some couples even create drapery or arches behind their reserved table or as a photo backdrop for guests. I would try and hang or assemble items such as these the day before the actual reception. This way, you can make sure that it not only stays in place, but also is assembled correctly and in a secure way. These always add fun elements and pops of color to any party!
Tip #7
Regardless of what your wedding day favors are, it's important to think of how they will be packaged and displayed at your reception. The last thing you want to do is bag candy or tie tags on favors the night before your wedding. Setting aside some time in the weeks leading up to your wedding day to do these things takes away another decorating aspect you will have to address the day of your wedding.
Tip #8
Perhaps consider decorating with engagement photos to give your reception space a more personal touch. Whether they're used as part of the centerpieces or as wedding favors, everyone in attendance will love seeing heartfelt images of the couple they are there to celebrate!
